Department of Energy

What a misnomer. How about Department of nuclear development? Here's a major story that got lost. An agency with no credibility. In the late 1980's after years and years of controversies leaking out one story at a time, it was disclosed that it would cost close to $100 billion to clean up DOE facilities around the country. The agency needed and got a public relations makeover, which the Clinton Administration worked really hard on.

As a result, the same cold warriors who now control the administration, attempted to kill the DOE's civilian oversite and hand all of its nuclear operations over to the Defense Department. DOE is hardly more than a massive pork barrel for the military industrial complex and those areas of the country that thrive off the federal welfare state. Its a no brainer what the cold war warriors would do with the DOE when they got control of it again. Same old Hard Path we saw 30 years ago.

Additional Notes: Since 9-11 We have had to remove a large number of links to DOE resources that have been made unavailable, including their weekly health reports.
