US policy has for decades involved significant meddling into the
affairs of Latin American countries, almost always sabotaging
democratic principles and human rights to bolster economic interests.
In recent years, Latin American peoples have pushed back moving their
nations toward more independent and authentic democracies.

The Cold War has thawed in this hemisphere, but the presumptive
Republican nominee for president of the United States, Senator John
McCain, is openly campaigning to bring it back.

Narco News Al Giordano brings you a in-depth report on what he calls
the McCain Doctrine toward Latin America and how a strengthened

For eight years this newspaper has reported thousands of stories
from Latin America that were ignored or distorted by commercial media
in the United States, and rarely mentioned by its politicians. One of
the only beneficial side effects of US President George W. Bushs
unsuccessful war in Iraq is that his administration had less time and
fewer resources than previous administrations had to impose their
invasive doctrines and policies on the Western Hemisphere.

But suddenly, everything has changed: Latin America is now on the
front burner in the US presidential election that will climax with a
vote in November.

Among the policy issues now at the front burner of the US
presidential campaign are the Cuba embargo and the proposed US-
Colombian free trade agreement. For the first time in most peoples
lifetimes, the US Presidential election is bringing a serious debate
on US policies toward Latin America countries.
