For the fifth consecutive year, the medical facility recorded the lowest rate nation wide. Over the latest 12 months, nearly 7,000 babies were born in the Lenin hospital, where one third of the current population of the eastern province of Holguin has been born. Most of them were delivered in a natural way as a result of specialized care to pregnant women and in particular to those at risk. The Lenin Hospital was founded by Cuban President Fidel Castro in 1965; ever since, the medical staff has been working to prevent the main causes of infant mortality in the territory such as low weight at birth, congenital anomalies, perinatal conditions and infections. As part of the province's health care system, other medical centers support the Infant-Maternity Care Program, such as the clinic for the prevention of Low Weight at Birth. The Infant Mortality Rate in Holguin is below the national average of 5.3. * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
