Cubans Vote in Second Electoral Round

Havana, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Cubans are choosing 3,028 municipal
delegates to the Municipal Assemblies Sunday to complete a number of
15,236 to form these local government structure.

Authorities from the National Electoral Commission (CEN) said 2 million
residents in 167 of the 169 municipalities go to vote again, since none
of the candidates could get more than 50 percent of the votes in the
first round.

All the mechanisms are ready, and the necessary personnel, to guarantee
the good course of the elections.

In the first round, 96.49 percent of the Cuban voters gave their vote
without distiction of race, sex, or social origin.

A total of 12,208 delegates were chosen in the first round, 26.79
percent are women, 16.72 percent young people, and these are figures
that can be increased in the second round.

The National Electoral Law establishes the elected delegates will go to
the Municipal Assemblies and many have the chance to get a post at the
Provincial and National Assemblies, for five years in the case of the
National.
