"We have to break the great media blockade to publish the cruelty committed against five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters for having fought terrorism within United States," Alarcon told Prensa Latina. The island"s legislator pointed out that those men were imprisoned and condemned to harsh sentences by the White House, to protect their terrorists working in that territory. The parliament leader questioned the Washington attitude that has confined Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, while send young people to kill and die in Iraq, "on behalf of the war against terrorism." "If US people knew that their regime maintains five people cruelly incarcerated for fighting that scourge, punishing mothers, spouses and children of those men prohibiting their visit, there would be an uprising,C-he said. The ways to break the barrier of silence on the Five will be one of the issues to analyze by over 500 participants from 30 Latin American nations in the Fifth Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, starting in Quito today. hr iff lgo mf PL-9 *** Alaracon in Ecuador for Continental Solidarity Meeting Quito, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) The Fifth Continental Meeting of Friendship with Cuba will start in this capital Friday, with the attendance of over 500 representatives from Latin American nations. The aim of the gathering until Sunday is to step up the struggle against the US-imposed blockade over 40 years ago on the island and the situation of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in that northern country"s jails for trying to thwart terrorist actions. Also included are regional integration, solidarity movements, and misinformation campaigns on Cuba. According to sources linked to the encounter, this is the first event of this kind taking place outside Havana and we choose Quito for the strength and historic ties of friendship organizations with the Cuban people. Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, presiding over his country"s delegation, will open this meeting, organized by the Ecuadorian Friendship Movement, and later participants will stage a demonstration to reiterate their support to Cuba. The agenda also includes special speeches by Cuban Congress" Economic Commission president Osvaldo Martinez and Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples vice president Enrique Roman.
