In statements to the press, the Cuban diplomat noted that President Bush's speech is a reiteration of the US hostile policy against the island over the last 48 years. Pereira recalled that on October 30 the member states of the United Nations General Assembly will vote once more on a resolution for the necessity to end the US blockade of Cuba which has already ben condemned on 15 previous UN meetings by an overwhelming majority, reports PL news agency. "Under the current US administration, the blockade has been reinforced becoming a true economic war," stressed Pereira. The Cuban representative noted that the losses caused by the financial, economic and commercial blockade by Washington against the island are estimated at some 89 billion dollars since 1959 and at 300 million dollars in 2007. Pereira also highlighted China's consistent attitude against the longest and cruellest blockade ever suffered by a nation throughout history. * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
