Cuba Elected as Member of UNESCO Sports Committee

Havana, Oct 25 (acn) Cuba has been elected member of the 
Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sports of the 
UNESCO, at the 34th UN General Conference underway in Paris until 
November 3.

According to Prensa Latina News Agency, the director of the Cuban 
National Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute Arnaldo 
Rivero, said that this is a recognition of the country's work, 
dedication and efforts.

We have presented several initiatives and strategies in the course of 
the years to develop sports, always well received within the UNESCO, 
Rivero stated.

Physical education and its role in the society, the use of human 
resources, science and sports, among others, will be analyzed in next 
sessions of the UNESCO Assembly.

The General Conference - composed of representatives of the 
Organization's 193 Member States and six Associate Members - meets 
every two years and determines UNESCO's policies and main lines of work.
