[NYTr] Roger Noriega Doesn't Know the Population of Cuba Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 22:16:42 -0500 (CDT) Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Tonight on the PBS NewsHour, they had a fairly brief report of the Bush Cuba Fandango of today. Showed a clip of the video of Bush's presentation, the audience looked mighty thin, not many press, and the Cuban-Yanquis in attendance looked very downbeat and deadpan. They were giving Bush that old fish-eye he gets everywhere these days as he made his non-announcements. They're already damn pissed at him, no matter what their politics, that they can't go visit Aunt Ileana whenever they like, and that they cannot send their own families money when they want to. Bush lives with picture of a fantasy Cuba alongside his fantasy Iraq. "Growing Dissident movements." and so forth. Then, a face-off between Peter Kornbluh of the National Security Archives and the dreadful hardline right-winger Roger Noriega (former Bush Assistance Secy of State for Western Hemispheric Affairs, now safely in a post-Bush job at the American Enterprise Institute) in a very mild-mannered debate about Bush's non-plan. Bush's big Cuba expert, the gusano Noriega, said -- not once, but twice -- that there are 7 million Cubans who are prisoners of tyranny on Fidel's Red Prison island (where as we all know the barbed wire grows out of the sea all along the shore). Peter Kornbluh either missed it, or was charitable enough not to ask him how come the other 4 million Cubans are free. (The population of Cuba is 11 million.) As noted, it was a very mild-mannered debate. Kornbluh simply said, the "transition" has been accomplished already. There is no uprising, there are no "dissident movements" (unless you count the dozen or so silly "ladies in white" who march around on Sundays outside the cathedral in Havana there is no rejection of the revolution, and the "embargo" is doing exactly the reverse of what Bush says he wants: more US influence. Noriega painted a picture of these oppressed Cubans (all 7 million, I guess) as "listening at great risk to the President's message." [Can't you just see those old Radio Free Europe commercials with the whoo-eee static and the hunched over Captive Nations family straining to hear every word?] Bullshit... they're all working in places where CNN is available with 108 other channels by satellite, or they're pirating soap operas and other satellite crap on their own TVs at home. Noriega also gave special mention to those who have chosen "Freedom" and are helping the US, like the Czech Republic, and Poland. Given the election results in Poland, he's a bit out of date there, too. Who knows if Bush will even get the Marshall Islands this time. He will probably get the Czechered gusanos to vote with him. Bush's Points: 1) He wants the Coalition of the Spiteful to help fund "more internet access for students." (Huh?) -- He's going to lay more cable between Miami and Cuba? Or pay for the cable the Cubans are already planning with Venezuela? Doesn't he know they have internet at Cuban universities? They even have computers down there, dunderhead.) 2) College scholarships for needy Cuban youth in Latin American Schools (HUH?) -- every Cuban who wants it already gets free education through college and beyond! They're giving the rest of the third world free scholarships, President Meat-head, including 100 poor Yanquis in medical school at ELAM in Cuba. And there was a third, that I've already forgotten. At least this year Bush didn't say the benevolent USA would give Cuban children vaccinations. Chuckle. Someone must have told him they have those in Cuba, too. It didn't work, George. No one believes a word you say about Cuba, and as for the rest of your miserable failures, everyone still knows that you're losing the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan, and that you were warned months ago about the poor fire-fighting preparations in California, and the economy is crashing, and the dollar's in the toilet, and that you are a psychopathic war criminal who orders torture and has made an enemy of 90% of the rest of the world who didn't already hate Amerika. Score another big Flop for the Liar in Chief.
