Cuba Boasts 184 Schools with Only One Student

Havana, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuba currently has 184 primary schools
in remote rural places with only one student, and they rely on
well-trained teachers and quality syllabus similar to those in the
cities.

There are also 251 schools with two students, 341 schools with three,
275 with four and 279 with five, located in remote places with
electricity provided by solar panels, the Cubahora website said.

According to the source, to carry out the educational process
successfully, these schools have audiovisual means (computer and tv) as
every other school in the country, all included in education
transformations underway for six years now.

Primary education is implementing a new school model to train students
as active, reflexive, critical and independent human beings with a
comprehensive general culture, regardless of the place where they live
or their ethnical, social origin.

The Cuban Government, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization and the UN Children's Fund have jointly given priority to
education in rural areas as a guarantee of the social model oriented to
the cultural development of this sector of the population.
