Colombia Official, Upbeat Cuba Trip

Havana, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) Colombian Foreign Minister Fernando
Araujo is due to conclude Tuesday his two-day visit to Cuba, after an
invitation by his counterpart Felipe Perez Roque.

As part of his agenda here, Araujo laid a wreath at the monument
erected to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, and met with Perez Roque,
Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon and Vice President Carlos Lage.

After welcoming Araujo, Perez Roque said this visit will boost links
among friends and step up bilateral ties, and he expressed gratitude
from the Cuban government and people for Colombian support at the UN.

Cuba and Colombia are Latin American nations, members of the
Non-Aligned Countries Movement and share common visions of the
international agenda, with similar challenges within the current world
order.

Araujo could verify during his stay in Havana the friendship with
Colombia and applauded Cuba"s advances after overcoming difficult
circumstances.

About 723 Colombian young people are studying on the island, 780
patients have recovered sight through the Operation Miracle free eye
surgery program, and another 42,000 people have learned to read and
write with the Cuban method "Yo Si Puedo" (Yes, I Can).

Cuban VP Meets with Colombian Foreign Minister

Havana, Oct 23 (acn) Colombian Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo Perdomo 
met Monday with Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage and with the president 
of the Cuban parliament Ricardo Alarcon to discuss matters of the 
bilateral agenda.

Lage and Araujo, who is on his first visit to Cuba, talked about the 
international situation and topics related to the upcoming 
Ibero-American Summit to take place in Chile in November, reported 
Granma newspaper.

After listening to a briefing on Cuba's social worker program by Lage, 
the Colombian Foreign minister and his delegation watched a documentary 
on the project, that will presented during the summit.

In his talks with Ricardo Alarcon, Araujo highlighted the increase of 
trade deals between the two countries over the last few years. He spoke 
in favor of making a greater effort to further increase those ties.

Alarcon also updated the visitor on Cuba's municipal elections held 
Sunday, October 21.

During his stay on the island, Foreign Minister Araujo will meet with 
his counterpart, Felipe Perez Roque, and other Cuban leaders.
