As part of his agenda here, Araujo laid a wreath at the monument erected to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, and met with Perez Roque, Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon and Vice President Carlos Lage. After welcoming Araujo, Perez Roque said this visit will boost links among friends and step up bilateral ties, and he expressed gratitude from the Cuban government and people for Colombian support at the UN. Cuba and Colombia are Latin American nations, members of the Non-Aligned Countries Movement and share common visions of the international agenda, with similar challenges within the current world order. Araujo could verify during his stay in Havana the friendship with Colombia and applauded Cuba"s advances after overcoming difficult circumstances. Lage and Araujo, who is on his first visit to Cuba, talked about the international situation and topics related to the upcoming Ibero-American Summit to take place in Chile in November, reported Granma newspaper. After listening to a briefing on Cuba's social worker program by Lage, the Colombian Foreign minister and his delegation watched a documentary on the project, that will presented during the summit. In his talks with Ricardo Alarcon, Araujo highlighted the increase of trade deals between the two countries over the last few years. He spoke in favor of making a greater effort to further increase those ties. Alarcon also updated the visitor on Cuba's municipal elections held Sunday, October 21.
