New Cuba-Venezuela Telecommunications Joint Venture

Havana, Oct 18 (acn) Telecomunicaciones Gran Caribe will be the name 
for the Cuba-Venezuela joint venture to install and operate an 
underwater optic fiber cable to link both countries.

Besides the undersea cable that will stretch from La Guaira, in 
Venezuela to Siboney, in eastern Cuba, the company will engage in 
direct marketing and rendering of telecommunications services.

The shareholders' equity will be 60 percent for Venezuela's CVG 
Telecomunicaciones C.A. and 40 percent for Cuban Transbit S.A. The 
company will have its headquarters in Caracas, with a subsidiary in 
Cuba.

After signing a raft of economic accords on October 15 in Havana, the 
authorization by the Venezuelan government was published as decree 
number 5.635 in the official gazette 38.791 on Wednesday October 17, 
2007, reported the Venezuelan News Agency ABN.
