Seychelles Is Against US Blockade of Cuba, Says Foreign Minister

Havana, Oct 17(acn) Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation, Patrick Georges Pillay, said that the
economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed by Washington on 
Cuba must end.

In conversations on Wednesday in Havana with his Cuban counterpart 
Felipe Perez Roque, Pillay stressed that the position of his country is 
not negotiable.  "It is rooted in historical relations of friendship 
with the Caribbean island and above all on the right to autonomy by 
every sovereign state", he said.

Perez Roque thanked Seychelles for its support within the Non-Aligned 
Movement (NOAL) for organizational changes advocated by Cuba as the 
current chair of the body.

Pillay chairs the eleventh Cuba-Seychelles Intergovernmental Commission 
for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which is concluding 
today in Havana with the signing of cooperation accords.

Bilateral exchange currently involves sectors such as healthcare,
sports, culture, and construction, though these are expected to expand 
to include other sectors, such as renewable energy, agriculture and 
pharmaceutical products, as well as exchanges of technologies and 
expertise.

Seychelles is an archipelago made up of 115 islands and 40 islets
situated in the Indian Ocean some 1,500 km east of mainland Africa.
