Porto visited a Maternity Home accommodating some 30 pregnant women in the municipality of Artemisa, in Havana Province, which had received a donation of fruit and vegetables from a local agricultural cooperative as part of the National Campaign for World Food Day. The FAO official pointed out that this initiative has been carried out by Cuban farmers for several years to improve the diet of pregnant women who have been accommodated in maternity homes because they live too far from healthcare facilities or have any risk factor. Porto also noted that this project has also contributed to a decrease in infant mortality in many municipalities across the island. * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
