The employed Haitians, east of the common border, will be provided with a temporary identity document paid for by their employers that will be systematically renewed, announced Armed Forces officers. The decision coincides with bitter complaints by Dominican unions over the increasing presence of Haitians in jobs formerly reserved for Dominicans, particularly in public transportation, tourism and private security services. Such complaints were received by construction managers with a grain of salt as, they claim, Dominicans are not attracted by the hard work of that sector, which has a majority of Haitians and Colombians. Among the abuses of Haitians mentioned are break-ins of homes, persecution and general mistreatment which has had an adverse effect on the economy of frontier provinces. ccs/abo msl * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
