Nauru's Foreign and Commerce Minister, David Adeang, is heading the delegation from this island state in the Pacific Ocean that established diplomatic relations with Cuba on May 7, 2002. Adeang arrived in Havana on Monday at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart, Felipe Perez Roque. The Oceania diplomat held talks on Monday with Perez Roque at the Cuban Foreign Ministry's headquarters in Havana and met high-ranking Cuban officials in the fields of healthcare and education. On Tuesday, Adeang laid a wreath on a monument of Cuban National Hero, Jose Marti, in Havana and toured the capital's historical center. He is also scheduled to chair the opening of the Cuba-Nauru Joint Intergovernmental Commission before wrapping up his first official visit to the island. Nauru is a rocky 21-square-kilometer island that has just over 13,500 inhabitants. It is located on the Pacific Ocean, south from the equator and the Marshal Islands, and 4,000 kilometers northwest from Australia. It has no official capital, and the government venue is based in the district of Yaren. Nauru was the first small island state in the Pacific to benefit from Cuban cooperation in the fields of healthcare and education. A group of Cuban doctors are currently serving in Nauru while the Cuban teaching method "Yes, I can", which has proven efficient in 25 countries, has also been implemented since last June in that nation. -------------- next part -------------- _______________________________________________ Ingles mailing list Ingles@ain.cu http://ainch.ain.cu/mailman/listinfo/ingles * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
