Cuban Five's Case Reviewed in Peru

Havana, Nov 23 (acn) Cuban lawyer Roberto Gonzalez gave detailed 
information on the current situation of the five Cuban antiterrorist 
fighters unjustly held in US prisons during an event organized by the 
Peruvian Committee in solidarity with the Five in Lima.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero 
and Rene Gonzalez, known worldwide as 'the Cuban Five', were detained 
in 1998 after they had infiltrated right wing Cuban American 
organizations in southern Florida to prevent terrorist activities 
against the Cuban and American people. The men were charged with 
espionage and punished with extremely harsh sentences despite the 
antiterrorist nature of their mission.

Accompanied by counselor minister at the Cuban embassy to Peru, Pastor 
Rodriguez, Gonzalez denounced with solid legal arguments the illegality 
of the judicial procedure of the Five.

Before a large audience gathered at the headquarters of the New Left 
Movement, the Cuban lawyer expressed his thanks for the Peruvian 
solidarity with the Five's cause.

For his part, the president of the Peruvian Committee in Solidarity 
with the Five, Gustavo Espinoza, ratified the commitment of the 
activists in his country to continue the campaign for the freedom of 
the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held behind bars for over nine 
years.

Gonzalez is meeting a tight working agenda in Peru which included his 
participation at the Congress for the Parliamentarian League for 
Cuba-Peru Friendship, presided over by deputy Victor Mayorga.
