Ecuador Protests Treatment of President Correa in Miami

QUITO, November 20.b Ecuador lodged a formal protest at the US embassy
over the treatment of its President Rafael Correa by immigration
authorities at Miami International Airport, informed the Foreign
Ministry on Tuesday.

According to press reports, last Thursday the Ecuadorian leader was
submitted to a search in a clear violation of his status as a head of
state.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that the most elemental civility
towards a head of state was absent in the treatment of President Correa.

The Foreign Ministry maintains that international norms of diplomatic
courtesy oblige friendly countries to provide a foreign leader with the
due attention and facilities, even if only in transit. (AP)
