The event, which will run until December 1st, will commemorate the bicentenary of Garibaldi, also known as the 'Hero of Two Worlds', who fought for the freedom of Italy and the Americas, said Havana Historian Eusebio Leal during a press conference. Leal added that knowing what Italy represents for humanity has a great value for Cuba. The varied program of the event was designed by the Cuban Culture Minister, the Office of the Havana Historian, the Italian Embassy and other institutions and it includes activities in the fields of music, literature, arts and cinema. Meanwhile, the Italian ambassador to Cuba, Domenico Vecchioni, said that the Cuban people will be the main beneficiary of this event. He praised the cultural exchange and described it as intense, varied and of a high quality due to the participation of prestigious international artists. He added that this initiative also aims at strengthening ties between Havana and Rome. The program of the event includes a conference by Professor Francesco Perfetti about the independence of Latin America and the myth of Garibaldi, while political scientist Sergio Romano will also give a lecture on the European Union.
