The condemnation was included in the Final Declaration of the meeting that concluded on Thursday at the Convention Center in the Cuban capital with the presence of delegates and guests from 36 countries. Many of them took the floor in the plenary session of the event to reaffirm their support of the Island when the US government makes increasing efforts to undermine its independence and sovereignty through threats and blackmail. The document includes the participants' decision to condemn and to fight for the elimination of Washington's blockade against Cuba after the UN General Assembly did the same last October 30th with the overwhelming support of 184 countries. In addition, the declaration rejects terrorism in all its forms, including state terrorism, as well as the US's double standards in its so-called 'war on terror'. It also condemns the use of wars to fight terrorism and urges Washington to extradite international and self-confessed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela. Delegates also agreed to include in the Final Declaration of the meeting a demand for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon LabaC1ino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez - internationally known as the Cuban Five -, who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States for fighting terrorism. The representatives from local governments that gathered in Havana coinciding with the festivities for the 488th anniversary of the founding of the city on November 16th also agreed to increase their work to further develop the ties of friendship and cooperation between their municipalities and cities and the Cuban capital. The 16th Meeting of Cooperation and Solidarity of City Halls with Havana will take place in November 2008. * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
