According to Prensa Latina, after receiving the medal from the hands of Dzhoja Poliyeva, advisor at the Kremlin and vice president of the Organizing Committee of the Activities for the Year of Russian Language, Marti was invited to speak on behalf of the decorated from Latin America and the Caribbean. The Cuban diplomat said that the language of Pushkin, Tolstoi, Chejov and Turgueniev have allowed us all to take a close look at the spirit of a friendly and heroic people. In reference to the role that Russia plays today in front of the dangers that threaten humanity, Marti noted that Moscow is an element of balance and expressed his best wishes so that the Russian Federation continues to prosper, to gain strength and to continue playing an important role in the solution of international issues. The Pushkin Medal is being granted on a presidential decree on the occasion of the Year of Russian Language. It reflects the recognition of the Russian nation to foreigners who have promoted cultural relations through the use of this language. Diplomats and personalities from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama and Peru were also granted the medal along with 30 other personalities from all over the world.
