Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Jose Antonio Diaz Duque is heading the island's delegation to the meeting. In statements published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Diaz Duque said the UN has recognized Cuba's energy-saving program. He explained the country expects to contribute with the reduction of gas emissions that cause the greenhouse effect, even though the island's limited releases have a very low impact on the world. Cuban representatives will also talk about programs led in the country to increase forested areas, which cover early 25 percent of the island. Likewise, other environmental programs will also be presented -- including land recovery and preservation plans, and the rational use of water. Cuba, which was invited to the UN's conference on climate change as a developing country, is expected to call for the commitments agreed to in the Kyoto Protocol be observed, while denouncing the USB refusal to ratify the agreement. -------------- next part -------------- _______________________________________________ Ingles mailing list Ingles@ain.cu http://ainch.ain.cu/mailman/listinfo/ingles * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
