The Work of Cuban Doctors Acknowledged in Guatemala

Havana, Nov 28 (acn) Guatemala's Presidential Commission on Human 
Rights (COPREDEH) will bestow a special acknowledgment on the Cuban 
doctors serving in this Central American country where they have saved 
many lives.

The executive director of the COPREDEH, Anabela Rivera, stressed the 
selfless work of the Cuban doctors in the most remote regions of 
Guatemala and extolled the opening of two ophthalmologic centers where 
thousand of patients have received vision-restoring eye surgery.

"The Cuban doctors have saved many lives in Guatemala," said Rivera to 
Prensa Latina after announcing the presentation of the award to the 
island's medical brigade December 6.

The vice coordinator of the Cuban medical brigade, Leonel Valdes, 
thanked the Guatemalan government for the acknowledgement noting that 
the brigade has seen more than 21 million patients and saved some 
250,000 lives.
