Regarding Cuba's medical cooperation all over the world, the Deputy Foreign Minister recalled that the island's doctors have treated more than 371 million people, mainly in Latin America, Africa and Asia. They have delivered more than 800,000 babies; they have performed 2.4 million surgeries and they have immunized 9.3 million children. Caballero noted that there are currently more than 36,000 Cuban medics and paramedics making their contribution in remote places of difficult access in 97 Third World countries. He also stressed that, in the last four years, 2.6 million people in 22 countries have learned to read and write thanks to the Cuban 'Yo si puedo' (Yes, I Can) literacy program, validated by the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO). * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
