European Left in Solidarity with the Cuban Five

Havana, Nov 28 (acn) A motion of solidarity with the five Cuban 
anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United 
States was unanimously approved during the Second Congress of the 
European Left that concluded recently in Prague.

The document recalls that, for more than nine years, Antonio Guerrero, 
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon LabaC1ino, Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez 
- internationally known as the Cuban Five - have been in prison for 
infiltrating anti-Cuba right-wing groups in South Florida that were 
planning and carrying out terrorist actions against Cuba.

The text notes that they were tried and given harsh sentences after a 
politicized and biased trial was held against them in the city of 
Miami, Florida.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, the motion approved during the 
congress of the European Left points out that the case of the Cuban 
Five has received the support of more than 6,000 intellectuals from all 
over the world, including several Nobel Prize laureates.

The European Left, whose second congress took place in Prague on 
November 24-25, thus join their voices to those who are demanding the 
immediate release of these five men and the end of this injustice.

Participants in the event agreed on making efforts so that European 
parliaments condemn this unjust process and the imprisonment of the 
Five.

They also agreed on participating in the World Day in Solidarity with 
the Five that will take place on December 12th, marking the tenth 
anniversary of their imprisonment.
