In his closing speech at the 2nd International Encounter of the Movement of Agro-Ecology and Sustainable Agriculture that concluded in Havana after five days of sessions, Alarcon expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Cuban people for their support in the struggle against the US's economic blockade against the island and in favor of the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon LabaC1ino and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States nine years after they were detained for infiltrating terrorist anti-Cuba organizations based in Florida. "These five anti-terrorist fighters are in jail because the US government allowed those organizations to plan and to carry out terrorist attacks against Cuba," said Alarcon. "Our people will continue to resist and to face the challenges that the Empire (USA) imposes on us until the final victory," said the Cuban top legislator. After referring to some of the measures adopted by Washington since the very triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 to try to overthrow the island's revolutionary government - including the assassination of its leaders -, Alarcon highlighted the irrevocable decision of the Cuban people to fight and to follow their leader, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. "They have not been able to defeat the Revolution but they have caused a lot of damage to our people and to the country's economy," stressed Alarcon. In the closing ceremony of the event, attended by more than 300 delegates from 22 countries, two resolutions were approved: one condemning the US blockade against Cuba and another one demanding the immediate release of the Cuban Five. During the five days of the event, participants toured several farms in different provinces where they learned about the experiences of Cuban farmers in the field of sustainable agricultural development and the production of organic food products. * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
