FW: Debate in Cuba Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2007 22:56:39 -0500 (CDT) _____ From: Dave [mailto:dm.silver@verizon.net] Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2007 11:54 PM To: Dave Silver Subject: Debate in Cuba RAUL LAUNCHES CRITICAL DEBATE ON THE FUTURE OF SOCIALIST CUBA WHILE THE PSEUDO-LEFT AND LIBERALS SEEK A NEW MODEL SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 Dave Silver So Marc Frank via Reuters tells us that Fidel thinks wages are too low as well as some other problems. So it must mean that Cuba is headed for disintegration and recession. There's no mention of the fact that in large measure Cuba has left the harsh "special period" in the past and by 1996 showed 6% economic growth. To Rafael Hernandez, editor of Termas (issues) is interpreted by the people (in Frank's translation) that Raul is calling for "deep structural changes in the Model" So the socialist model needs to be changed to what? Maybe we can use the perfect oxymoron, a favorite of social democratic, neo-marxist and new Left forums called market socialism or what Karl would call an antagonistic contradiction. And here comes a former Cuban Intelligence officer who defected to gusano territory, urging Cuba to "reform" or perish. And to "rethink soicialism." And we can't leave out both liberal and conservative think tanks at Stanford or the Heritage Foundation All of whom analyze new openings for a Democratic Society which can produce glasnost and perestroika and "new thinking" and destabilization eventually leading to a "smooth post Castro transition" meaning a post socialist Cuba. We must follow the example of Cuba's internationalism and strengthen our Solidarity with Havana and intensify efforts to Free the Cuban Five. Socialist Cuba is the Hope of the Planet. There's One Humanity and One Struggle at home and abroad.
