Venezuela to donate USD 15 million to Latin America on a yearly basis

Venezuela is delivering USD 15 million to the Internacional Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD) for an initial term of five years for
joint funding of rural development projects in Latin America and the
Caribbean, said Thursday the United Nations agency.

Chairman of the Internacional Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
Lennart Bige and Vice-president of Venezuelan state-run Economic and
Social Development Bank (Bandes) Luis Arias BellorC-n entered into an
agreement of institutional cooperation for joint funding of such
projects, said AP.

The agreement provides for "identification and design of strategies to
fight against rural poverty in the region, sub-regions and countries,
as well as joint funding and follow-up of the activities approved."

Venezuela is a founding member of IFAD since 1977. The UN agency has
been working in the country for more than 15 years, and has provided
USD 67 million for five rural development projects, three of which are
under way.
