Cuba s VP Attends Swearing In of New Jamaican Prime Minister

Havana, September 14 (acn) Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo Hernandez 
met with Jamaica's new Prime Minister Bruce Golding to reaffirm the 
interest of both Cuba and Jamaica to continue strengthening bilateral 
relations. Lazo traveled as head of the Cuban delegation to the sister 
nation for Golding?s swearing-in ceremony on September 11.

During his short stay, Cuba's Vice President also met with Jamaican 
Governor General Kenneth Hall, former Prime Ministers Portia Simpson 
Miller and Percival J. Patterson, the prime minister of Barbados, the 
CARICOM general secretary, and the Foreign minister from Trinidad and 
Tobago.

The Cuban delegation visited a representation of the Cuban 
collaborators working in the Jamaican capital of Kingston, leaders of 
Cuban solidarity groups, and the local committee to free the Cuban 
Five. According to Granma daily, this visit received widespread 
coverage in the Jamaican media.

Bruce Golding was elected as the new leader of the governing JLP and 
succeeded Portia Simpson-Miller to become Jamaica's eighth Prime 
Minister on September 11, 2007.
