Cuba Hosts International Forum on Neurology and Neurosurgery

Havana, Sept 12 (acn) An international forum on neurosurgery and 
neurology is opening on Wednesday and will run until Friday in the city 
of Moron, in the central Cuban province of Ciego de Avila.

The event, which is being attended by local and foreign specialists, 
aims to serve the exchange of experiences in the area of neurosurgery 
and neurology - one of the most developed medical specialties in Cuba.

During the event, the participants will discuss state-of-the-art 
technologies, modern surgical tools, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, 
and the most complex cases of multiple cranial fractures.

Other topics of debate will include vascular neurology, head injuries, 
control of tumors, pediatric neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery and 
neuroendoscopy.

In statements to the acn news agency, the head of neurosurgery team in 
the Roberto RodrC-guez Hospital in Moron, Angel Lacerda, said local 
experts at the forum will present several research papers they have 
produced over the last few years.

One of the most noteworthy cases is the one of Yoelvis Rodriguez 
Agramonte, 10, who suffered multiple severe head injuries in a car 
accident. After several weeks in a coma and following four operations, 
the doctors at the Moron hospital restored the child's consciousness, 
which constituted a major victory for Cuban pediatric neurosurgery.
