Cuba Deplores UK, US Zimbabwe Blockade

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez
Roque condemned the Western blockade and blackmail of Zimbabwe, a
policy that violates world rights and the UN Charter.

During Wednesday's meeting with Zimbabwe Vice President Joyce Tourai
Ropa Mujuru, Perez Roque unequivocally condemned the efforts to isolate
Harare and lauded the support from the African Union and Southern
African Development Community.

The diplomat voiced support for any measure to help Zimbabwe improve
its living standard and farmers' access to the land. As president of
the Non Aligned Movement, Cuba considers it a duty to back Zimbabwe's
rights.

The Cuban official also renewed the commitment to boost socio-economic
cooperation with Zimbabwe, particularly to raise world consciousness on
injustices against Zimbabwe.

Ropa Mujuru, who arrived in Cuba September 9, expressed gratitude for
Cuban hospitality and its view on the developments in Zimbabwe,
explaining that the UK and US sanctions are because of the African
country's insistence on respect for its rights and support of its
President Robert G. Mugabe, whom the people back.
