Cuban Social Workers Support Energy-Saving Programs in 14 Countries

Havana, Sept 11 (acn) Over 2,700 Cuban youngsters integrated into the
Social Workers Program have replaced incandescent light bulbs with CFL
bulbs in 14 countries which have contributed considerably to the saving
of energy in those nations.

The Cuban social workers have supported several energy-saving
initiatives undertaken in the island and other countries over the last
seven years, reports Trabajadores online newspaper.

More than 60 million incandescent light bulbs have already been
replaced just in Venezuela, which have reduced maximum demand by 2,300
Megawatts.

The project was carried out for the first time in February 2006 in the
cities of East Kingston and Port Royal, in Jamaica. Other Caribbean
islands which have benefited from this program are Guyana, Belize,
Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Haiti and Surinam.

Nearly 43,000 Cuban social workers have incorporated into the energy
revolution and into the social services programs implemented in their
