Sinaloa, Mexico: 20 Homicides a Month

Mexico, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Six Mexicans were killed this week in the
northwestern department of Sinaloa, Mexico, bringing the average to 20
homicides a month in this drug-beset zone.

In addition to a family of four shot down in cold blood, Alberto Rivera
Fernandez, a journalist-spokesman for Secure Mexico - an anti-organized
crime campaign - and Jesus Ricardo Murillo, brother of Sinaloa Front
Against Impunity activist Mercedes Murillo, were also slain.

Ministerial police media spokesman Juan Quinonez stated that 503
murders took place in the first six months of this year, 80 percent of
them related to drug trafficking.

According to Human Right States Commission CEDH, more than 70 percent
of those killed were parents, with two or more children, leaving 800
orphans.

"There is an urgent need to encourage political and social authorities
to modify attitudes so as to be able to modify conduct before this
phenomenon," researcher Beatriz Rodriguez stated.
