RAAN Governor (North Atlantic Autonomous Region) Reynaldo Francis said that people rescued in the Misquitos keys report people dead on those islands, where fishing communities of Miskito Indians live on reefs along the Honduran-Nicaraguan border. SINAPRED director (National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Assistance) Col. Ramon Arnesto Soza reported tens of thousands of people have been left homeless by the hurricane. According to Soza, the nearly 50,000 affected people have begun receiving government aid, while international aid is starting to arrive in Nicaragua. The Honduran president sent 10 military doctors, who the joined Cuban Medical Brigade which has been in RAAN since April, as part of the agreements of cooperation in the area of health signed between Havana and Managua.
