Cuban Education Aims to Consolidate Change

Havana, Sept 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban education aims to consolidate the
changes being implemented over the past seven years, Education Minister
Luis Ignacio Gomez said on Thursday, when expressing his conviction
that the ongoing school year will be one of the best.

We have accumulated great experience with the Battle of Ideas (programs
to improve Cubans' economic and social wellbeing), Gomez told Prensa
Latina after inaugurating a teacher training college in the outskirts
of Havana.

The educational programs implemented by the Revolution in 2000 have
practically consolidated, said the Cuban minister, adding that more
than 5,500 youths trained as emergent teachers have graduated from
university.

In addition to well-trained personnel, material supplies are
guaranteed, Gomez said.

All these reasons and the universalization of higher education have
allowed us to train teachers and other professionals, he pointed out.

"We have to improve the political culture of our youths, so that they
can have deep knowledge of the conflicts that threaten the survival of
the human species," Gomez stressed.

The minister noted that the government guarantees that all students can
continue their studies, and highlighted the people's role in the
development of the educational system.

The Revolution appreciates, respects and admires its educators, because
it acknowledges their invaluable contribution to training new
generations, he said.
