Paraguay: Farmers, Indigenous Warn Against Pesticides

Asuncion, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The Paraguayan National Central
Farmers, Indigenous and Popular Organization (CNOCIP) supported the
bill limiting use of toxic pesticides in the country, now being
analyzed in Paraguay's Congress.

"No one has the right to put the life of people at risk with the
indiscriminate use of pesticides, no matter how much economic power he
has," the organization said in its release.

CNOCIP urged legislators not to allow themselves to be pressured by the
great producers of soy, whom they hold responsible for the poisoning
cases in the Paraguay farm population.

We demand regulating legislation, the farmers said and also warned the
government of the destruction of the environment, which they consider
is becoming irreversible in the nation.
