Non-Aligned Movement Calls For Cultural Diversity

Havana, September 5 (acn) A ministerial level meeting of the 118-member 
Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) concluded Tuesday in Iran with a commitment 
to work to protect human rights and a call to Western powers to respect 
the cultural diversity of the developing countries.

A final conference statement noted the importance of supporting a 
dialogue among civilizations and censured the efforts by Western 
countries to impose their values, beliefs and lifestyles on the 
underdeveloped, reports Granma newspaper.

The two-day NAM meeting was attended by delegations from more than a 
hundred countries, some 50 represented by their foreign ministers, 
including Venezuela, Bolivia, Syria, Iraq and Cuba, the organization's 
current chair.
