Heavy rains flooded several areas in Baja California Sur where Henriette hit Tuesday with sustained winds of 86.99 m/h. It is expected to weaken and exit to the sea Wednesday. The capital, La Paz, expects the eye of the storm to pass through and some 5,000 people were evacuated and power cuts from downed lines are the damages reported so far without victims. An earthquake of 5.0 degrees in the Richter Scale occurred Tuesday at 21:07 local time with epicenter 35.41 miles offshore and six miles deep. Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatan states, all in central Yucatan Peninsula, plus Veracruz and Chiapas, enacted a yellow alert as they still recover from the damages of Hurricane Dean. The state-run Civil Protection Office (CPO) of Chiapas has declared a permanent alert for Felix that already affected Central America. The CPO says rescue brigades and the police, in coordination with the Army and Navy, are touring communities and areas at risk since the rain and winds of Felix are expected to start affecting the area on Thursday. ef emw jf mf *** Honduras on Alert Despite Weaker Felix Tegucigalpa, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) The fear of possible landslides has the Honduran capital under maximum alert, although Hurricane Felix has been depleted, going from highest Category 5 to a tropical storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Hurricane Felix comes weakened to Honduras after its devastating course over Nicaragua, but authorities fear that constant rains will cause rivers to overflow and flood low-lying places, recalling the effect of tropical storm Mitch when it struck in 1998 and 10,000 people died. At least four people died in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua from the impact of Hurricane Felix, the second category 5 hurricane of the season. The Permanent Contingency Commission said 23,778 people were evacuated in Honduras, most of them in the departments of Gracias a Dios and Islas de la Bahia, where Felix destroyed 123 dwellings. Authorities expect rain accumulation of up to 2 inches during the next 12 hours, until the tropical storm dissipates or enters Salvadoran national territory. ef ccs tac cmv * ================================================================= .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
