Havana, Aug 31 (acn) Professors and students in the University of 
Santiago de Chile (USACH) demanded the release of the five Cuban men 
unfairly imprisoned in the U.S, during a meeting to pay homage to the 
Cuban Revolution.

The activity was organized by the "Rector Enrique Kirberg" 
Solidarity-with-Cuba Committee and by the Ernest Mandel Socialist 
Nucleus of the University of Santiago de Chile. Participants demanded 
the liberation of Cuban anti-terrorists Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo 
Hernandez, Ramon LabaC1ino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, who 
have been unfairly jailed for nearly nine years.

The Cuban men have been serving severe sentences for having monitored 
Miami-based hard-line groups, which have organized and conducted 
criminal actions to crush the Cuban people and its revolution.

Noemi Sepulveda, with USACH and president of the solidarity-with-Cuba 
committee, highlighted the bonds of friendship between Chile and Cuba 
and with the Cuban revolution, while also reading verses of poet Pablo 
Neruda, reported PL.

Present at the meeting, Cuba's academic attachC) Olga Fernandez Rios, 
thanked the Chilean professors, officials and students of the 
university for the support they expressed.

The diplomat spoke about the latest reports on the case and the hearing 
that was recently held in the Court of Appeals of Atlanta, at which 
dozens of prestigious international personalities attended.

Cuban Five Documentary Screened in Uruguay

Montevideo, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) After almost a decade of unfair
imprisonment in United States, the documentary film on the Cuban Five
"The Process" is to be screened in this capital Friday, as part of
several Uruguayan organizations' efforts for their release.

Directed by Rolando Almirante, the film is about the manipulated trial
held in Miami against Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando
Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino and Rene Gonzalez.

The Five, as they are universally known, were detained on September 12,
1998 in Miami, and are currently serving harsh sentences ranging from
15 years to double life terms for defending their country from violent
actions by anti-Cuban terrorist groups settled in that northern nation.

The film will be screened at the amphitheater of the Association of
Banking Employees of Uruguay in this capital, thanks to efforts by the
Uruguayan Pro-Five Committee.

In the movie testimonies from young people, their relatives, their
defense lawyers, reputed US legal specialists are mixed with elements
of technical and ethical character to show the injustice.
