Peru Reconstruction Fund Questioned

Lima, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Questioning of the newly formed
reconstruction fund for the area affected by the earthquake has risen
after being approved by the country's leaders.

The president of Ica southern region Romulo Triveno announced that the
mayors of his jurisdiction will decide in a few hours if they will
collectively reject the authority of the controversial fund.

Triveno reiterated his criticism of the fund for being too centralist
and said his administration is capable of restoring Ica, which has been
denied by the central government.

He also considered it disrespectful that he hasn't been taken into
account for the creation of Forsur, nor appointed as member of the
leading board, although accepted the possibility of talks with the
president of the new entity Julio Favre.

The Peru Regional Government's Assembly criticized the Fund Wednesday
and rejected handing over its management to private businessmen.

The Assembly pointed out that the creation of Forsur and other similar
initiatives must have the regional governments' opinion and demanded
full respect of their autonomy.

The document said that the businessmen have a role in the
reconstruction process but disagreed in their inclusion on the leading
board.
