US Fines Travelocity and Amex Subsidiary for Booking Cuba Trips

Havana, August 16 (acn) American online travel company Travelocity has 
been fined $182,750 by the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets 
Control (OFAC) for booking trips between the United States and Cuba in 
violation of the trade blockade enforced by the US government against 
the island for more than four decades.

The OFAC said the Texas-based company, owned by Sabre Holdings TSG.N, 
violated the blockade 1,458 times between January 1998 and April 2004.

In another case, American Express Travel Related Services Co., Inc. was 
also fined $16,625 after a subsidiary in Mexico sold travel packages to 
Cuba, a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean, OFAC said.

Although the Bush Administration has put emphasis on the tourist 
industry, the blockade against Cuba also stretches to medicines and 
health technologies.
