Mundo Latino Plans Documentaries on Cuban Celebrities

Havana, August 10 (acn) A documentary series on Cuban personalities in
the fields of the arts, politics, sports and science, is one of the
current projects being undertaken by the Mundo Latino production company
in Havana.

The initiative features Cuban national hero Jose Marti and the bFather
of the Homeland,b Carlos Manuel de Cespedes. The work also includes
chess champion Jose Raul Capablanca, writer Gertrudis de Avellaneda,
scientist Carlos J. Finlay (who discovered the transmitter of yellow
fever), guerrilla fighter Camilo Cienfuegos and fencer Ramon Fonst (the
first Cuban Olympic champion.)

According to statements by Mundo Latino official Armando Olivera, the
project emerged in 2006 and being co-sponsored by the Cuban Film
Institute.

The documentary on Capablanca will be shot shortly by moviemaker Otto
Miguel Guzman, who is also scheduled to direct the film on Camilo
Cienfuegos.

Guzman was also the director of the documentaries "El merito de estar
vivo" (a collection of images and testimonies on the more than 600
assassination attempts against Fidel Castro), and "Giron, 66 horas"

Olivera noted the documentaries will be marketed in Venezuela, Argentina
and Mexico after being premiered in Cuba.

Mundo Latino, with more than 20 years of experience, has a large
audiovisual catalogue of musical, social, biographical, historical and
environmental films.
