Over the last 20 days, President Ortega has received in Managua high-ranking delegations from Venezuela, Spain, Iran and Brazil, reports PL news agency. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez opened this fruitful period of visits Arriving in Nicaragua to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution on July 19, 1979. She also announced Spain's decision to cancel Nicaragua's debt. Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian was in Nicarauga to discuss plans for building a hydroelectric plant in Nicaragua. Iran will also supply Nicaragua with tractors and agriculture machinery. During a recent visit to Nicaragua, Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, signed several cooperation agreements in the fields of energy, agriculture, education and commerce. Though most of the accords signed over the last 20 days with Venezuela, Spain, Iran and Brazil are medium- or long-term, they represent a ray of hope for the 70 percent of Nicaraguans who live in abject poverty.
