Cuban Dancer Excels as Spartacus in London

Havana, Aug 9 (acn) London dance critics labeled as "burning but 
subtle" the performance of Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta in his 
debut in the English capital as the lead dancer in Spartacus, by the 
Russian Bolshoi Ballet.

Carlos Acosta met all expectations with his performance, reported the 
Evening Standard newspaper, which named the show as spectacular in the 
first two lines of a critique in which the Cuban dancer overshadows his 
Bolshoi co-performers, reported Granma newspaper.

The daily compared the staging of Spartacus by the Bolshoi Ballet at 
the London Coliseum with a Las Vegas show, adding "only with the right 
dancer for the lead role."

The production stages the story of the gladiator that led a slave 
rebellion against the Roman Empire. The daily stressed Acosta's 
particular way of dancing, remarking that it is very different from his 
Bolshoi comrades.

Meanwhile, The Independent characterized the Cuban dancer as "delicate, 
vivid and passionate," with jumps showing both elegance and strength.
