Cuba Acquires New Modern Jet

Havana, Aug 6 (acn) The first of three modern TU-204 jets purchased by 
Cuba from Russia arrived at Havana's Jose Marti International Airport 
on Sunday.

The first plane will be used for mid-distance cargo transport. The 
other two will be for passengers and are scheduled for delivery by the 
end of 2007, reported Granma newspaper Monday.

The purchase of the new aircrafts, along with other three IL-96-300 
planes previously got by Cubana Airlines, is an important step in the 
renovation of the company's international fleet. It will help increase 
both passenger and cargo transport capabilities.

Executives from Cubana Airlines, Civil Aeronautics officials and 
diplomats from the Russian embassy were among those on hand to receive 
the new plane.
