Presiding over a ceremony in front of the mausoleum at the Santa Efigenia Cemetery containing the remains of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, Raul Castro lit an eternal flame in honor of the martyrs of the homeland. A memorial plaque was also unveiled paying tribute to all who have died defending Cuba, as well as those who have offered their lives in international causes abroad. Between music, flowers and the remembrance of important moments of the underground struggle against the Batista dictatorship, the voices of several generations of Cubans were raised to ratify their support of the principles that became the moral shield of the Cubabs socialist project. Amaurys Quintana, deputy secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communists League, said the human values of Frank Pais are an example for new and future generations. "For those of us that had the honor of working next to him, his death was an irreplaceable loss bsaid fellow combatant Luis Felipe Rosellb but in the midst of the pain caused by his assassination we knew how to continue fighting and move ahead. For that reason from the pedestal of the heroes, we state that Frank continues to be together with Fidel and Raul at the helm of the country." On the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Frank Pais and his comrade Raul Pujol a floral wreath sent by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro was placed at his tomb. Earlier in the day other flower reefs sent by the Council of State and Ministers and the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution were also placed at the memorial. Similar tributes took place at the tombs of Raul Pujol, Rene Ramos Latour, the Diaz brothers and the July 26, 1953 Combatants Pantheon and the November 30, 1957 uprising. The tribute started at sunrise Monday, with honor guards and political and cultural activities that took place at Frank Pais birthplace, the Callejon del Muro, where he and Raul Pujol were assassinated and the Placita de los Martires, the gathering place of young revolutionaries in Santiago de Cuba city during the days of the clandestine struggle. The activities adjourned with a massive pilgrimage by thousands of citizens of Santiago in homage to Frank Pais and all the heroes and martyrs of the Cuban Revolution. At the end of the tributes, Raul Castro, accompanied by Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque and Politburo members Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Ramon Espinosa Martin and Misael Enamorado Dager, visited the tomb of Frank Pais and recalled the life of the leader of the July 26th Movement. * ================================================================= .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
