Coalition Film Series Montaña de Luz (Mountain of Light) The Cuban documentary “Montaña de Luz”—produced by ICAIC (Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos)—follows Cuban doctors working in collaboration with communities throughout Latin America and Africa. The doctors work for no pay in areas of the world where there is either no medical care available or where the few local doctors are unable to meet the enormous need, in the case of the AIDS epidemic in Namibia and flood victims in Haiti. The Cuban doctors often work alongside medical interns returning to their home country from Cuba after graduating from medical school. In Cuba, free medical training is provided for any student—the only requirement being that the student return to their home country and use their skills working within the most opporessed communities. Beyond the material aid the Cubans give, they also provide an important example that another world is possible. A world where care replaces the drive for profit. The film carri es with it a deep message of internationalism, solidarity and humanism. 2005, 53min, Spanish w/ English subtitles, Directed by Guillermo Centeno A.N.S.W.E.R.
