Raul Castro: Cuba Won't Budge on its Principles

CamagCB<ey, July 26 (acn) First Vice President Raul Castro ratified on 
Thursday that Cuba will not budge on its principles when faced with US 
blackmail, nor make any unilateral concession to any country or group 
of countries.

Addressing over 100,000 people gathered at the Mayor General Ignacio 
Agramonte Revolution Square, in the city of CamagCB<ey, Raul Castro 
expressed Cuba's willingness to dialog on equal terms with the new US 
administration to be elected in 2008.

'If they put aside their arrogance, we will welcome negotiations to 
solve our differences; if they don't, then we will continue to resist 
another 50 years if necessary,' stressed Raul Castro.

The national ceremony, to mark the 54th anniversary of the July 26, 
1953 attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes army barracks 
by a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro, was also attended by 
members of the Cuban Communist Party Politburo and government 
officials, as well as by veterans from the historic attacks and the 
landing of the Granma boat (1956).

Also present were relatives of the Cuban Five, imprisoned in US jails 
for gathering information to prevent terrorist attacks against Cuba, 
and US Reverend Lucius Walker and other members of the Pastors for 
Peace organization, who arrived last week to Cuba with their caravan of 
humanitarian aid.

During the ceremony First Vice President Raul Castro handed Julio Cesar 
Garcia, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Camaguey, the 
flag that identifies Camaguey as the headquarters of the July 26 
national celebrations.

Other speakers included Julio Cesar Garcia and Salvador Mesa, general 
secretary of the Cuban Worker's Federation.

Garcia said CamagCB<ey's citizenry is very proud to represent the Cuban 
people on such an important date. He said the achievements in the 
province that led to it being selected are the result of the work done 
for several years.

The morning ceremony also included artistic performances by popular 
music and dance groups, as well as by renowned pianist Jose Maria 
Vitier and songwriter-singer Amaury Perez, who dedicated his song to 
Cuban President Fidel Castro.
