This 18th edition of the Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan includes 150 activists from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and several European countries. Reverend Lucius Walker, executive director of the Inter-religious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO), denounced that American authorities stopped medical aid on the Maine-Canada border, although they allowed it from Vancouver and Winnipeg. "Anything can happen in the border," warned the religious leader. The aid includes medicines, seven vehicles, school buses, and two trucks. 'On our way through the United States, many people showed interest in knowing more about the Cuban health system, especially after seeing Michael Moore's 'Sicko',' said Ellen Bernstein, a member of the caravan. For his part, Walker noted that "our work strengthens the bonds of friendship and the cultural and family exchanges between our two countries." "This caravan will be another blow to the over-45-year-old US blockade that has been condemned by almost the entire planet," he concluded. Upon their arrival in Cuba, the group will attend the first graduation of US students at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana. *** Workers World - Jul 19, 2007 issue http://www.workers.org/2007/us/san-diego-0719/ 18th Cuba Friendshipment Caravan Gets Rousing Send-off in San Diego Solidarity with Cuba event in San Diego by Bob McCubbin It was a full house at the Malcolm X Library July 9 when San Diegans gathered to welcome West Coast caravanistas with the 18th Cuba Friendshipment Caravan, initiated by Pastors for Peace, on their way to Cuba with medical and other humanitarian aid.
