Poll Ratifies Hugo Chavez Popularity

Havana, July 15 (acn)  Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez enjoys a 
popularity rating of over 70 percent, revealed a poll made by the 
Seijas Polling Co., considered one of the most accurate of that South 
American nation.

The poll results contradict appraisals from opposition groups that 
claim a supposed drop in the popularity of the charismatic leader won 
his re-election last December with 63.1 percent of the votes, reports 
Granma newspaper.

Venezuela is currently preparing for a new constitutional reform 
process to guarantee the socialist transformation of the South American 
nation, as promised by President Hugo Chavez during last year's 
election campaign.

According to parliament member and lawyer Carlos Escarra, one of the 
most knowledgeable experts on the subject, President Chavez may present 
his proposals this week at the National Assembly in order to formally 
start the process.

One of the main points in the package of reforms is expected to be on 
property; to achieve a greater role of the state and its social project 
than the current dominance of private property.
