[NYTr] Cuba July 26th Anniv Planning Meeting - Jul 17 NYC Date: Sat, 14 Jul 2007 15:22:10 -0400 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit sent by Ike Nahem - Jul 14, 2007 ikenahem@mindspring.com [Write to Ike at address above if you want the .PDF file of a flyer.] July 26 Coalition Notice: The next meeting to plan this year's July 26 Celebration, to be held on Friday, July 17, 2007 will be this Tuesday, July 17, at 6:30 PM, at the 1199/SEIU Building, 310 West 43rd St., between 8th and 9th Avenues, Times Square Subway Stop in Manhattan We have 2 weeks to go before this years Celebration. Our main task is to get out the word!! This year's event will be particularly attractive beyond the broad layer of folks who are in conscious solidarity with the Cuban Revolution. The addition to our program of two New York City firefighters and first-responders on the day of the 9/11 attacks, John Feal and William Maher, will strongly increase the attractiveness of this year's event and potential mass media coverage. William went to Cuba for medical treatment as shown in the Michael Moore movie "Sicko." John was the firefighter who arranged for the group to travel to Cuba with Moore. As previously stated the program will also feature a keynote address from an Ambassador of Cuba to the United Nations. We have confirmed solidarity talks at the event by Leonard Weinglass, Larry Hamm (Peoples Organization for Progress), Sandra Levinson, who will give a tribute to Vilma Espin, Antonio Camacho Negrin, and Elombe Brath. Live music will be performed by the Boston-based rock/rap band Bojah and the Insurrection. Attached to this email is the flyer for the July 27 event. We urge you to forward this to your listserves or individuals/organizations in your email address book. We will have available at the meeting thousands of the beautiful palm card, as well as leaflets, for people and groups to pick up to publicize and build this event. At this week's meeting we will go over in detail the program for July 27 and stepping up outreach and media work. Organizations should bring their $25 contribution for the event. We ask all the organizations that have been part of the Cuba solidarity movement and the annual July 26th Celebrations to send representatives to the July 17 meeting.
